SCM represents a new tier of memory/storage that has emerged to bridge the gap between main memory (DRAM), which is very fast but volatile, and storage (flash/SSD), which is non-volatile but slow and cheap. It is faster and lower power than flash and less expensive than DRAM. It is also non-volatile, and is targeted to accelerate storage in data centers, cloud computing and mass storage devices.
